26th February 2012
Whitley Lodge Snooker Home (Rising Sun sports ground) Lost 1-0

The final game of the 11/12 season unfortunately ended in defeat to a very good side who sit on top of the league now needing just another win to become champions. The spirit and fight within the team was superb and we feel hard done to losing to a last minute goal after defending so hard throughout the game.

Notable performances came from Davy Grieves who put his body on the line on a number of occasions, stand in skipper Gav Clark and Mel "Sir Stanley Mathews" Barnes who had the life of the young right winger nutmegging him and sending him for the morning papers numerous times. We looked good with the ball but didn't create enough good chances and the one great chance we did create fell to Chris "50 pence napper/ducky/lucozade/tom daley" Emery which saw him head wide with only a few minutes left. Whitleys goal came in the dying seconds when we didn't deal with a corner and they forced the ball home to take the points.

Thoughts must go out to David "ginge" Marshall who dislocated his ankle and has 3 broken bones in his foot after a very hard tackle. I just hope he remembers to bring his socks and shorts back. On yet another note Craig Ferguson won cross of the season when he crossed the ball 5 metres inside the opposition half to see it go out for a throw 5 metres in field on the same flank from which he kicked it. So congratulations to him.

Well done to the lads this season, we've had our fair share of bad luck this season but we've kept going, we look forward to next year and our continuing improval.

Grainger Park BC Home (Rising Sun sports ground) Won 3-0

DANNY'S DREAM ..............

My first goal was a first time volley with my left foot from the edge of the area which flew into the top right hand corner. My second came from a corner where I was to rise above everyone like a gazelle on a trampoline to head home from seven yards. Then I claimed my perfect hatrick as I dribbled my way from box to box beating eight players three times each on route to neatly finish with my right foot in the bottom left.

THE REAL WORLD

The snow came on Saturday but alas our opponents didn't on the Sunday. After a pitch inspection by the referee the game was given the go ahead so we got to the task of putting the goals up and getting stripped only to hear our opponents couldn't field a team so it goes down as a 3-0 win. It's a shame as we'd rather of played the game. In the record books I've put down a Danny Routledge hatrick.
