FOOTBALL@THE BARKING DOG
|
NEWS
Feburary 26th is known as a famous day in football and no it wasn't the day Peter Beardsley's cock fell out his shorts. It's the day The Barking Dog take on top of the table Whitley Lodge Snooker Club in their final game of the 11/12 season with a slim chance of promotion still to play for.
With the renaming of the ground to The Hula Hoop Arena earlier in the week it is thought some of the Dog faithful will stay away in protest but manager Danny Routledge was still hopeful in this mornings press conference saying "I understand the timing of the name change is bad but I still expect the fans to turn out in their tens for this crucial game. When we played them earlier in the season we were somewhat confused by the oppositions' waistcoats and bow ties but this time we know what to expect and I know we'll give it a good go and who knows we may even steal a famous victory"
Barking Dog v Whitley Lodge Snooker Club kicks off 1045 Sunday 26th feb at The Hula Hoop Arena.
Odds for first goal scorer at Battle Hill Fadbrookes
4/1 Shaun Casey, James Cox 12/1 Gavin Clark, Dave Grieves 20/1 Tom Banks 50/1 Martin Baxter 100/1 Duckie
You can also get odds of 20/1 that the Barking Dog get promoted and Danny is still sacked.
Manager Speculation
Since the departure of Fabio Capello rumours as to his replacement have been circulating around any half decent "English born" manager worth his salt.
After Harry "the bung" Redknapp ruled himself out the rumours have moved to hot young talent Danny "the Adonis" Routledge of The Barking Dog FC fame. After taking them from a bottom of the table minnow to within touching distance of a top 8 finish in his first season in the north east sunday leagues F division, it's little wonder he is in the frame. It's believed his handling of Terrygate, where it was alleged his skipper Terry "the daddy" Blackford had called Davey "ginge" Marshall ginge, was thrown out of court with a lack of evidence, has put him in good stead with the FA.
A spokesman from the FA at the time said outside court, "we the FA and the country were ready to hang Terry as there is no place in society to show prejudice towards someone, even carrot tops, and it was proven that Terry did not call "ginge" ginge. So all credit must go to Danny for the belief he has shown in his skipper".
Reporters have been camped outside Routledge's flat in Battle Hill since Capello walked out hoping to get any clues to his thoughts on the vacant post. He has released a statement on his twatter account saying "ooh the big job is vacant... I wonder if I'll get asked?? *smiley*". This is somewhat of a cryptic message as the job at The Dog and Duck FC in the Havant and Waterloo Sunday league division 5 is now available after the owner barred their long term manager for having a piss in the bandit tray after losing £44.
We are hoping to speak to Danny soon and will keep you posted.
